Carl H. Eigenmann and Rosa Smith Eigenmann, both students at Indiana University, married in 1887. They went to Harvard University to study the Agassiz fish collection for about two years, and then returned to California where Mr. Eigenmann served as Curator of Fishes at San Diego and at San Francisco. Fernandus Payne was affiliated with Indiana University for nearly 50 years, first as a student, then professor and administrator.
